Can Intel® Optane™ Memory Be Used from an External Adapter?

Environment

Windows 11, 64-bit*, Windows® 10, 64-bit*

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Summary

Requirements for Intel® Optane™ memory to be connected directly to a compatible M.2 port in the motherboard

Description

The motherboard does not have an M.2 port, and there is no information about the possibility of using the Intel Optane memory in a different way, such as using an adapter, enclosure, or PCIe* adapter card.

Resolution

The motherboard requires a compatible M.2 PCIe NVMe* port in order to use Intel® Optane™ memory. It is also important to confirm with the system manufacturer if the system is Intel Optane Memory-ready.

If there are no M.2 ports available but the system manufacturer confirms the motherboard is Intel Optane Memory-ready, they must provide the means to successfully configure system acceleration using Intel® Optane™ memory.

Additional information

The use of external adapters, enclosures, or controller cards is not supported nor validated. For more information, refer to USB/PCIe* Adapters and Enclosures for Intel® Solid State Drives.
