Description

When looking in the device manager, the status of the Intel® Ethernet Controller or Intel® Ethernet Adapter shows "Code 10, the device cannot start".

Resolution

Some recommendations and steps that may help are detailed below:

  • Proceed to power-cycle the system:

    If the system is a desktop computer:

    1. Turn off the system.
    2. Disconnect the power cables from the computer.
    3. Press and hold the power button for approximately 30 seconds.
    4. Leave the computer disconnected for around 10 minutes.
    5. Re-connect the cables, boot the system, and check the connectivity and status of the Intel® Ethernet Controller/Intel® Ethernet Adapter.

    If the system is a laptop computer:

    1. Disconnect the charger cable from the laptop.
    2. Turn off the laptop.
    3. Remove the battery.
    4. Press and hold the power button for approximately 30 seconds.
    5. Leave the laptop disconnected for around 10 minutes.
    6. Re-insert the battery as well as the charger cable if needed and check the connectivity and status of the Intel® Ethernet Controller/Intel® Ethernet Adapter.
  • Verify that the latest drivers are installed.
