Environment

Other Linux family*

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Summary

Steps to disable the fast startup mode of Windows* to use the wireless card with Linux* OS.

Description

Unable to detect the wireless card in a system running linux* KDE Neon, it had previously Windows® 10 installed, and AX200 wifi worked on that.

Error message on linux: iwlwifi: probe of XXXX:YY:ZZ.n failed with error -110

Resolution

This may be a problem with fast startup mode of Windows. Windows keeps the wireless adapter for itself when the system shut down, hence Linux cannot detect it.

To disable the fast startup:

  • Go into Settings
  • Select Power & Sleep
  • Choose power button > Shut down setting > uncheck the Turn on fast startup > save change
