Description

Unable to validate whether the Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors support these virtualizations features:

  • Cpu virtualization extensions with nested page table support.
  • I/O virtualization (IOMMU) support.
  • PCI pass through device support.

Resolution

The following details can assist you in determining product support for these features:

  • CPU Virtualization Extensions with nested page table support

Intel's implementation of second level address translation (nested paging) is Extended Page Tables (EPT). This is listed as Intel® VT-x with Extended Page Tables (EPT) on the Product Specifications page.

  • I/O virtualization (IOMMU) support falls under the Intel® Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (VT-d) capabilities

For more information visit Intel Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O.

  • For PCI pass through device support to work, the IOMMU (Input-Output Memory Management Unit) is required, which falls under Intel® Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (VT-d)

To confirm a product supports these capabilities, do the following:

  1. Visit the Intel Product Specifications site
  2. Search for the product, by model, in the upper right hand corner search box
  3. On the product page, navigate to the Advanced Technologies section and confirm if there is a Yes beside the Intel® VT-x with Extended Page Tables (EPT) & Intel® Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (VT-d) features
