Hearing Coil Whine From Intel® NUC Products

Description

An Audible coil whine (noise) is coming from an Intel® NUC product or its power supply. Sometimes, the sound may occur when a USB camera or camcorder is connected to the USB port of the NUC. It's a subjective sound that some hear and others do not, depending on the amplitude.

Resolution

  1. Test a different power adapter or cord.
  2. Try using different USB ports.
  3. Try using a different camera or camcorder with the same USB port.
  4. Update the BIOS to the latest version.
  5. If in need of further assistance, contact Intel Customer Support.

Additional information

Coil whine is a high pitched noise caused by the vibration of an electromagnetic coil as current runs through it.
