Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT) Exit with Code 78
What am I seeing?
Failed to put the Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT) into the In Provision state. The Start Configuration operation failed. Examine the Intel® Management Engine BIOS Extension (Intel® MEBX) settings to make sure that remote configuration is enabled, or that a TLS PSK pair is defined.
AMT Status code - Management controller hasn't progressed far enough in its initialization to process the command.
How did we first start troubleshooting this?
The computer was Intel AMT–activated. We added an additional configuration layer (TLS cert template) and reran. We then received a different unrelated error, so we unconfigured AMT. When running the configuration command again, this error 78 came up. We unconfigured in Intel MEBX but still received error.
We checked the LMS service and it stopped, so we started it back up but still received error. Checked drivers and WMI; they were in place. Reinstalled the FW and Drivers anyway. Reran and still received error. We disabled the Manageability Feature in the Intel MEBX, enabled it, but still received error. Pulled c-Moss battery, but still received error. Now can’t get into Intel MEBX. Ctrl+P isn’t working.
How to fix it.
- Check the state of the MEI driver. It could be corrupted or disabled.
- Check if the WMI provider is accessible.
- Try performing Host-Based Configuration followed by MoveToACM.
