How to Resolve Booting Issues With an Intel® Xeon® W-3175x Processor in an ASUS* or Gigabyte* Motherboard

Environment

Boxed Intel® Xeon® W-3175X Processor ASUS ROG Dominus* Extreme workstation board or Gigabyte C621* motherboard

Description

  • ASUS* motherboard will not boot and displays error code 00 or 60.
  • Gigabyte* motherboard will not boot.

Resolution

  1. Check the seating of the processor in its motherboard's socket.
  2. Check that the motherboard’s power supply cables are attached as instructed in the motherboard documentation and power supply documentation.
  3. Check the installation of the 3rd party cooling solution.
  4. Verify that the cooling solution is not pushing down too hard or pulling up on the processor.
  5. With the ASUS motherboard running, press the small red-colored Safe Boot button to force a reconfigure and reboot. This button is located near the power Start button.

  6. Follow the motherboard user guide.
  7. With the ASUS motherboard, confirm that the LN2 Mode Jumper is set to the Enable position.

Also, many ASUS motherboards have a feature called USB BIOS FlashBack™ that allows you to update the BIOS without booting into the operating system or even having a CPU or RAM installed. This is particularly useful when experiencing a "no-boot no post" event, as it allows you to potentially fix the issue by updating the BIOS to a compatible version.
