What Is the Torque Value and Screw Size for Intel® M.2 and 2.5″ SSDs?

Description

Unable to find the proper torque for the screws when installing a SSD to a chassis in order to prevent stripping the screw or mounting hole.

  • M.2 drives do not have specific values for torquing the screw. The screw torque value is based on the board M.2 screw base and setscrew, not based on the M.2 SSD.
  • For more information, contact the motherboard manufacturer.

For 2.5” SSDs

Do not exceed torque of 0.67 Newton-meter (Nm) to prevent enclosure thread damage. Applied force of 0.45 Nm works for flathead screws. For other screw types, it can be lower or higher (in a range of 0.45 Nm – 0.67 Nm). The mounting threads for these drives could be M3 type x 4mm. This does not come in the box but can be found online or in stores.
