Which NVMe* Driver Should I Use For My Intel® SSD?

Environment

Intel® NVMe SSDs

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Summary

Explains which NVMe* driver you should use based on your OS.

Description

Not able to identify correct NVMe* driver to install for the Intel® SSD.

Resolution

The driver you need to install for your Intel® NVMe SSD depends on the OS you are using.

Windows*

Intel provides three different drivers that can be used for NVMe SSDs:

Notes
  • Intel recommends our customers use our drivers even though the latest Windows® 10 operating system (OS) includes an inbox driver that enables NVMe support (already installed in the OS).
  • The driver or software for your Intel® SSD might have been changed or replaced by the system manufacturer. Check with your system manufacturer before installing our driver so you don’t lose features or customizations.
  • Some Intel® SSDs are not supported with the first two drivers above. See their download pages for compatibility information.
  • Intel driver support may vary depending on the product. Always refer to the release notes for each driver release.
  • The above drivers are for NVMe SSDs, and not for SATA SSDs.

Linux*

Linux distributions already include the inbox driver required to enable NVMe* support. If you need to update your driver, work with your platform vendor.

ESXi*

Work with your platform vendor to get the appropriate NVMe* driver based on your ESXi* version.

Note Intel only supports the Intel® NVMe* with ESXi* which can be downloaded from the VMware* site directly.
