No POST or Video Output on Intel® Server Board S1200SP

Content Type: Install & Setup   |   Article ID: 000039529   |   Last Reviewed: 09/15/2026

Description

A server system equipped with an Intel® Server Board S1200SP does not POST and provides no video output

The following troubleshooting steps have been performed:

  1. Tried with a different video card, with a processor with integrated graphics but without a result.
  2. Verified functionality with a different monitor and cable.
  3. Performed BIOS recovery, (Complementary metal–Oxide–Semiconductor) CMOS reset, but nothing is working.

Despite these actions, the issue persists. The system appears to be failing during POST, and the diagnostic LEDs display an error pattern that cannot be identified.

Resolution

Proceed with the following checks:

  1. Ensure that the CPU fan is connected to the CPU Fan Header and that a system fan is connected to the System Fan 4 Header on the motherboard, at least during the initial power-on.
  2. Refer to the motherboard documentation in the Reference section to locate the appropriate fan headers.
  3. Verify that the installed memory modules are ECC unbuffered DIMMs, as required by the platform.
  4. Once the server successfully powers on, verify that the system is running the latest BIOS version.
  5. If the BIOS is not up to date, perform a BIOS update to the latest available release.
  6. Review the latest BIOS Release Notes for any additional requirements, prerequisites, or relevant information before proceeding with the update.

Additional information

The basic input output system (BIOS) needs to read the mandatory fans' presence (CPU and the chassis fan). Find assembly instructions for the motherboard in the Quick Start User's Guide for Intel® Server Board S1200SP Product Family.
