Summary

Troubleshooting hints when there's no network access.

Description

No Internet access when the cable is connected to any of the onboard NIC ports. Can't get the lowest data rate of 100 Mbps.

NoteThe port LED doesn't light up.
Resolution

Make sure that the port on the switch is not configured at 100 Mb/s, but at 1 Gb/s and/or above. 1Gbps and 10GBe are the supported speeds. Connectivity to any devices (switches, routers, other NICs) that are 10/100Mbps won't give a link.

Other steps to consider if necessary:

  • Ensure the proven good working Ethernet cable is connected to the correct port, not to the dedicated management one.
  • Ensure that the onboard NIC is enabled in the board BIOS.
  • Make sure the latest driver is installed.
  • Restart the server if needed. Upon restart, there should be Internet access.
