Cannot install VMware* ESXi* on a RAID array created with software RAID solutions such as the Intel® Embedded Server RAID Technology 2 (Intel® ESRT2) or Intel® Rapid Storage Technology enterprise (Intel® RSTe).

VMware* ESXi* requires a compatible hardware Intel® RAID controller for its installation. RAID volumes created using Intel® Embedded Server RAID Technology 2 (Intel® ESRT2) or Intel® Rapid Storage Technology enterprise (Intel® RSTe) do not support VMware* either as boot or data volumes.
Starting with Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC) 7.5, VMware* ESXi* is supported on NVMe* RAID volumes (boot and data) on supported platforms.
