Intel® System Support Utility Process

Windows* process
  1. Download the Intel® System Support Utility and save the application to your system.
  2. Open the application and click scan to see system and device information. The Intel® System Support Utility defaults to the Summary View on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says summary to change to Detailed View.
  3. To save your scan, click Next and click Save. You can save the file to any accessible location on your computer.
  4. Attach the file to a support web ticket by clicking on the link next to the Save and open a ticket.
Linux* process
  1. Download the Intel® System Support Utility for the Linux* operating system and save the ssu.tar.gz file to your system.
  2. Extract the ssu.sh file from ssu.tar.gz and save to your system.
  3. To run the ssu.sh script from a Linux* terminal, Open Applications->Accessories->Terminal.
  4. From the current directory, navigate to the current folder where the ssu.sh file resides. For example, if you saved the ssu.sh file to a folder called SSU File, the command would be cd SSU File.
  5. Run the ssu.sh file using this command: ./ssu.sh <parameter=0|1> where 0 = off and 1 = enabled.
  6. Use the parameter definitions included in the readme to determine which parameter to use.
    Note If no parameter is specified and only ./ssu.sh is run, it captures all system information with the exception of 3rd party logs that must be specified.
    • If no output file is specified, the Intel System Support Utility writes the output to the <systemname>.txt file.
  7. You can view or open the output file in most text editors. However, view the file in a word processing software, such as WordPad*, for better formatted viewing. In addition, the Intel® System Support Utility for Windows can open the output file, which provides you with the capability of viewing the Linux information in an easy-to-view user interface.
Intel System Support Utility Functionality and User Interface Information

Scan: Performs a detailed scan of your computer system information and devices.

Selective Scan: You have the option to select specific device nodes to perform a scan in order to potentially reduce the overall scan time. The Intel® System Support Utility defaults to Everything selected for the scan with the exception of Third-Party Logs.

Open: Opens a previously saved configuration file to view in the Intel® System Support Utility interface.

Summary View: Upon completion of a scan, the Intel® System Support Utility automatically transitions to the Summary View screen. This screen displays a high-level summary of system information and installed devices. This information includes OS, Memory, Processor, System Type, Display Adapter(s), Board Information, Network adapters (Wireless and Wired), and Storage Info. Each device has a driver listing where applicable.

Detailed View: From the Summary View screen, you can access the drop-down menu to change between Summary View and Detailed view. Detailed View is a comprehensive list of device information and system information.

Search Functionality: Searches the summary or detailed view in the review page, and filters the results based on the search criteria provided.

  • The search is initiated as the user types, and the Intel® System Support Utility filters the output in the view to display only those items that match the search criteria. If no matching items are found, the view is empty.
  • The search field is case insensitive, and it searches for substring matches. For example, a search for intel matches with both Storage Device for Intel or Intel® Dual Band Wireless.
  • The search uses the three basic Boolean operators AND, OR, and NOT to focus the search criteria.

Example: If a combination of AND and OR is used together, the search terms can be enclosed in parentheses. For example, Intel AND (storage OR graphics)

  • ​If the search parameters are not enclosed within parentheses, the search operators evaluate each operator/term(s) as it is encountered in left-to-right order.
For example:
  • Intel AND storage OR graphics is evaluated as (Intel AND storage) OR graphics.
  • Intel AND NOT Storage is evaluated as Intel AND (NOT Storage).

Back and Next: Selecting the < Back button takes you back to the previous scan view. You are prompted to save your scan information with (Yes, No, Cancel) options. Selecting the Next > button takes you to the Review and Save screen.

Review: Clicking Review takes you back to the Summary and Detailed view.

Save: Saves the scan information to a file.

About Intel® System Support Utility: Clicking the About Intel® SSU link opens the Intel® SSU About screen. The About screen includes a brief description of the application and a link to the Intel® SSU guide and download location and a link to the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant.

Intel Customer Support: Clicking the Intel Customer Support link opens your web browser to the Intel Customer Support landing page.

X: Clicking the X closes the Intel® System Support Utility application. If you completed a scan, you are asked if you want to save the information to a file before exiting.

Copy Information (Copy/Paste) functionality: Intel® System Support Utility supports the ability to copy the information (Item and Value) in the view screen to your clipboard, and then paste the information in any supported text editor or field. To access this functionality, use your mouse to select the information you want to copy, right-click with your mouse, and select copy. Ctrl functions are also supported: Ctrl/A, Ctrl/C.

Detailed View Output Screen

Following are descriptions of what is available when you view the information in the Detailed View:

Computer: Shows detailed scan information about the computer, including, but not limited to, manufacturer, system model, system type, and processor.

Displays: Shows detailed scan information about the connected Display/Monitor including, Display Name, Raw EDID and Serial Number.

Graphics: Displays a list of all Graphics Devices on your system. Clicking a device name displays the detailed scan information. This information includes but is not limited to Driver Version, Video Processor, and Adapter RAM.

Management Engine: Shows detailed scan information for Intel® vPro. This information includes but is not limited to Local Manageability Service (LMS) Version and Intel(R) ME Version.

Memory: Information about each memory bank including but not limited to Capacity, Part Number, and Manufacturer.

Motherboard: Board Information, which includes BIOS, Part Number, and Serial Number and Chipset.

Networking: Displays a list of all Network Devices on your system. These Network Devices include all wired and wireless connections.

  • Device Name: Clicking a device name displays the detailed scan information. This information includes but is not limited to PBA number (if applicable), Driver Version, Adapter Type, and Product Type.
  • Settings: Clicking the (+) next to the Adapter name, and then clicking Settings shows persistent settings and configuration information for the adapter.

Operating System: Displays detailed scan information about the operating system, which includes but is not limited to OS Manufacturer and OS Version/Build.

Processor: Displays detailed scan information about the Processor, which includes but is not limited to Chipset, Stepping, and Speed.

Storage: Displays detailed scan information about the Storage Devices, which includes but is not limited to Serial Number, Model, Size.

Third-Party Logging: Provides detailed logging capabilities, including saving the information to the output file and displaying to the dialog. Third-Party Logs consist of System Log Information and DXDiags Logs.
