This update improves the security of the firmware and the ability to enable secure configuration.

Insecure handling of UEFI variables in Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors, Intel® Xeon® Processor E5 v4 Family, Intel® Xeon® Processor E5 v3 Family system firmware potentially allows a local attacker to disable security features of the platform. Intel reference firmware implemented setup options to enable/disable security features. These options are used in the validation environments to relax security when running tests in a lab environment. If used by malware on a production system, these features may result in elevation of privilege by disabling protection of the system configuration or denial of service.

•   Medium (6.1) CVSS:3.0/AV:L/AC:H/PR:H/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:N/A:H

Affected products:

Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors, Intel® Xeon® Processor E5 v4 Family, Intel® Xeon® Processor E5 v3 Family

A reference fix was provided in the pre-production Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors Refresh releases and Intel recommends that end-users contact their system manufacturers for updated system firmware.
