Managing Changes With the Change Manager

The Change Manager allows you to track and manage post-compilation changes performed on the design. You can evaluate changes, retain those changes that accomplish your design goals, and undo and discard those changes that do not accomplish your design goals.

The Change Manager window is integrated into the Chip Planner. The Change Manager is displayed automatically whenever you perform and ECO action in the Chip Planner. To open the Change Manager manually, on the View menu, click Change Manager.

Right-click one or more change records that you want to apply, and then click Apply Selected Change.

Right-click one or more change records that you want to restore to their old values, and then click Restore Selected Change.

Right-click one or more change records that you want to delete from Change Manager, and then click Delete Selected Change.

Note: Changes can be deleted only if they are neither saved nor applied; that is, the Current Value field must not be green, and the Disk Value field must not be blue.

To export all changes, follow these steps:
1. Right-click anywhere in the Change Manager, point to Export, and then click Export All Changes As.
2. In the Export dialog box, select the file type to which you want to export changes.
3. Specify a target directory and file name for the exported file, and click Export.
To export selected changes and their prerequisites, follow these steps:
1. Right-click one or more change records of interest, point to Export, and then click Export Selected & Prerequisite Changes As.
2. In the Export dialog box, select the file type to which you want to export changes.
3. Specify a target directory and file name for the exported file, and click Export.
To export selected changes and their prerequisites and dependants, follow these steps:
1. Right-click one or more change records of interest, point to Export, and then click Export Selected & Related Changes As.
2. In the Export dialog box, select the file type to which you want to export changes.
3. Specify a target directory and file name for the exported file, and click Export.

Note: Changes exported to a text file can be read by a text editor or other program, a comma-separated value file can be read into a spreadsheet for evaluation, and a Tcl script file can be run to reapply your changes at a later date. Before applying changes in Tcl format, ensure that you understand its use. For information on the Tcl scripting language, refer to About Quartus II Scripting.

Right-click one or more change records, point to Show, and then click one of the Show commands.

Note: The Show Changes to Selected Node command filters the display based on node names listed in the Node Name column; node names listed in other columns are not considered.

To sort the list of change records by index number, node name, change type, old value, target value, current value, disk value, or comment text:

Click the column heading by which you want to sort.

Note: When sorting by current value or disk value, the list is sorted first by status, placing applied changes at the top of the list, and then sorted by index number.
