4.3.2.2. Shadow Register Set Management

The Nios® V processor uniquely supports the shadow register set, which is not found in any RISC-V specifications. Because of this, custom CSRs are needed to manage the shadow register set. You can access these custom CSR with the RISC-V csrr* instruction.

Enabling the shadow register set in the Nios® V processor includes the addition of three new CSRs:

  1. Shadow Register File Status CSR (msrfstatus)
  2. Read Previous Shadow Register CSR (mrdpsrf)
  3. Write Previous Shadow Register CSR (mwrpsrf)
