Intel Acquires Sarvega To Bolster Software, Enterprise Platform Strategies

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 17, 2005 Ė Intel Corporation today announced it has acquired Sarvega Inc., a leader in XML solutions. The acquisition combines Intelís proven hardware capabilities with Sarvegaís underlying XML software technology and engineering expertise. Sarvegaís networking solutions optimize XML performance and Web services on enterprise networks providing businesses with improved reliability, security and flexibility to better serve and respond to their customers.

XML is an industry standard language used to describe data independent of software or hardware that simplifies business to business transactions and facilitates the seamless exchange of information between individuals or businesses. Demand for XML-based solutions is growing as it promises to address interoperability within the data center and across multiple institutions, including security and network traffic routing needs not currently addressed by IP-based networks. Industry analysts have projected that XML-based Internet and corporate network traffic will grow from 15 percent in 2004 to almost 50 percent in 2008.**.

Enterprise IT managers are stressing the need for XML solutions that can be deployed across the data center in a transparent and ubiquitous manner. This acquisition supports Intelís enterprise platform strategy as it facilitates the development of integrated platform solutions that can help to meet this customer requirement.

Sarvega is a privately held company based in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. that delivers XML solutions to enterprise IT managers. The companyís offerings accelerate the processing of XML-workloads, increase network and XML firewall security, and reduce system management overhead.

"With the accelerating acceptance of Service Oriented Enterprise solutions in the marketplace, our customers are demanding greater performance with respect to XML processing," said Richard Wirt, corporate vice president, senior Intel Fellow and general manager of Intelís Software and Solutions Group. "This acquisition supports our strategy to deliver added value to Intelís computing platforms with products that will help our customers implement end-to-end XML solutions."

Service Oriented Enterprise solutions are based on standard Web service protocols and software building blocks which deliver complementary, interoperable services to enhance business to business communication processes.

"Sarvega has developed leading XML technology and we are involved in some of the largest XML deployments in the world," said Christopher Darby, Sarvega president and CEO. "Our XML technology is an ideal complement to Intelís strength in providing hardware-based solutions."

The current Sarvega product line will continue to be available and be fully supported. Sarvega employees will join the Intel Software and Solutions Group. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
