Intel Press Release

Intel's 'One Unwired Day' Offers Free Trial Wi-Fi Access Across The Country

5,500 Public Hotspots Participating Today

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 25, 2003 - From Hercules, Calif., to Braintree, Mass., from Carefree, Ariz. to Humble, Texas, today is "One Unwired Day" in large and small cities all across America.

During today's nationwide event, Wi-Fi-equipped notebook PC users can enjoy a free trial of public wireless Internet access at more than 5,500 public Wi-Fi hotspot locations across the United States. Hotspots, most frequently found within hotels, restaurants, coffee bars, retail stores and airports, are places where people can tap into a wireless Internet connection with their wireless-enabled notebook PCs.

The location of hotspots offering free Wi-Fi access during One Unwired Day is available at www.intel.com/unwire. Participating hotspots will also display signs indicating that free Wi-Fi access is available throughout the day.

One Unwired Day is designed to show businesspeople and consumers the immediate benefits of the unwired lifestyle, encourage them to try Wi-Fi services free of charge and provide opportunities to try notebook PCs based on Intel® CentrinoTM mobile technology.

"With Wi-Fi and notebook PCs based on Intel Centrino mobile technology, it's possible for mobile PC users to surf the net from a coffee shop or send a presentation from an airport lounge," said Ann Lewnes, vice president of Intel's Sales and Marketing Group. "Through One Unwired Day, we're making it easy for people to sample the unwired lifestyle and to experience how true mobile computing can enhance their lives."

Introduced in March, Intel Centrino mobile technology includes a new mobile processor, related chipsets and 802.11 wireless network capabilities that have been designed and tested to work together. In addition to wireless networking capability, the technology enables extended battery life, thinner and lighter notebook PC designs, and outstanding mobile performance. Today, there are 92 notebook designs based on Centrino mobile technology and Intel expects more than 130 designs to be available by the end of the year.

All of the 5,500 hotspots participating in One Unwired Day have been verified to be compatible with laptops based on Intel Centrino mobile technology as part of the Intel Wireless Verification Program. This program includes engineering and testing of Intel Centrino mobile technology with various access point devices, software combinations, hotspot locations and wireless service providers to verify they are compatible, further enhancing the end user's wireless experience.

In addition, Intel has been working with leading wireless network service providers, hotels, airports, retail stores and restaurant chains worldwide to accelerate deployment and increase awareness of wireless public hotspots.

One Unwired Day Festivals
Free trial Wi-Fi access will also be available at One Unwired Day festivals in New York City, Chicago and San Francisco, and events in Seattle. The festivals will feature live concerts, as well as product demonstrations and prize packages including notebook PCs based on Intel Centrino mobile technology, Wi-Fi service subscriptions from T-Mobile and Surf Here, wireless home networking products from Linksys, and Wayport wireless access cards.

The festival locations, concert artists and times are available at www.intel.com/unwire. The website also suggests "cool things" mobile PC users can do while unwired, including accessing exclusive music and video from Barenaked Ladies, Seal and R.E.M., downloading the September issue of Business 2.0*, and playing games offered free by Sony Pictures* "On the Go." The website also features step-by-step instructions for connecting to a public hotspot and setting up a wireless network in a home or small office.
