Intel Appoints New Fellow
SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 2, 2003 - Intel Corporation today announced that Peter J. Bannon has been appointed to the position of Intel Fellow.
The position of Intel Fellow represents significant technical achievement within the company and the industry. Fellows provide strategic technical leadership and guidance to Intel and represent the company at a variety of industry events and forums. There are now 46 Intel Fellows worldwide.
Bannon, 41, is director of Intel® Itanium® Processor Family microprocessor development. He is responsible for leading engineering efforts for 64-bit server microprocessor design. With 19 years of combined service to HP, Compaq Computer Corporation and Digital Equipment Corporation, Bannon has held various microprocessor design positions where he was the lead architect for several Alpha microprocessors and played a major role in driving the Alpha processor's performance capabilities.
Intel and Compaq (now part of HP) announced an agreement in June 2001 to transfer key enterprise processor technology to Intel and consolidate Compaq's entire 64-bit server family on the Itanium processor family. Bannon is among more than 300 former Compaq microprocessor engineering and software engineering employees who have joined Intel as part of the agreement.
Bannon received a bachelor's degree in computer systems design in 1984 from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He holds nine patents, has filed five patents and has published more than 15 papers on server microprocessor design and performance.
