Accton Selects Intel® Media Switch Device For Turnkey Ethernet-Switching Solutions

SANTA CLARA, Calif., August 19, 2002 - Accton Technology Corp. has selected Intel® Media Switch silicon as the switching engine for two of its new turnkey Ethernet systems for OEMs. These systems, which also include Intel® Flash Memory and Ethernet PHYs, offer cost-effective Ethernet switching solutions that networking equipment vendors will brand and sell through their channels to medium and large enterprises.

The Accton 24-port 10/100 Ethernet Routing Switch is based on the Intel® Media Switch IXE2424 10/100+Gigabit Device, a Layer 2-4 switching chip that supports quality of service and security, thereby reducing the cost and time typically required to develop high-bandwidth voice, video and data applications. The Accton 24-port 10/100 Ethernet Routing Switch provides two plug-in modules for Gigabit connectivity and is a multi-layer routing switch, combining the speed and low cost of a Layer-2 switch with Layer-3 routing capability.

Accton also is using the Intel® Media Switch IXE5416 family of 16-port Gigabit devices in its Gigabit-Ethernet routing switches. The IXE5416 devices are cost-effective, high-port-density and highly integrated components that enable easy migration to Gigabit Ethernet to the desktop for less than $100 per port. The Accton Gigabit-Ethernet routing switches provide 12 fixed ports and two expansion slots to provide a solution that combines the speed and low cost of a Layer-2 switch with Layer-3-routing capability.

Both of these new Ethernet-routing switches from Accton also provide comprehensive network management functions, such as STP for standard bridging, GVRP for VLAN configuration, SNMP, RMON and Web management.

"Accton's selection of Intel communications building blocks illustrates the importance of helping equipment makers to deliver feature-rich solutions with accelerated time to market," said Jonathen Cheng, vice president of marketing at Accton. "With products based on Intel® Media Switch Devices, we offer our customers proven Layer 2/3/4 10/100 and Gigabit technology along with our value-added features to deliver customized solutions."

Irvine-based SMC Networks will be one of the first companies to offer Accton's new Intel Media Switch-based products.
