Legend Establishes Its Supply Chain System With Intel-Powered i2 Solution

BEIJING, Oct. 29, 2001 -- Legend Holdings Limited, the leading PC manufacturer in China, today said it will establish its Supply Chain Management (SCM) system with solutions from i2 Technologies, Inc. powered by Intel-based servers. The new SCM system is part of Legend's ongoing investment in advanced operational applications, which now includes enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management, call centers and specialized e-business applications.

After evaluating several solution providers, Legend selected the U.S.-based SCM provider i2, which has completed installations in a large number of Fortune 500 companies. Legend's system will be the first full-scale deployment of an i2 SCM solution in China, and Legend expects the investment to further improve efficiency, lower operational costs and increase customer satisfaction.

Legend, which commands 14.4 percent share of the Chinese standard Intel® Architecture server market segment according to IDC's 2001 first half figures, will deploy the new SCM system on its own Legend Sure* range of servers, powered by the Intel® Xeon™ processor family. The company selected the SCM solution from i2 and server building blocks from Intel to support its rapid business development and to increase competitiveness by optimizing its supply chain operation.

"Our testing demonstrated that our Legend brand powered by Intel-based servers either met or exceeded all of our business requirements, and would provide the performance, reliability and scalability that our supply-chain operation demands," said Wang Xiao Yan, Legend's senior vice president and chief information officer. "Since Intel-based servers provide a lower total cost of ownership versus a RISC-based platform, we can achieve a higher return on investment by deploying these servers."

"Intel, Legend and i2 have successfully worked together to design and test this supply chain management solution," said John Davies, vice president and general manager of Intel's Solutions Market Development Group. "Bringing the design and performance characteristics of Intel-based servers to i2 solutions enable companies such as Legend to plan in real-time, resulting in effective control of inventory and increased throughput in factories."

"i2's extensive supply chain management offerings are designed to allow customers to manage their resources and costs efficiently and collaborate with multiple trading partners across several companies," said Eliza Kwok, managing director i2, China/Hong Kong. "We are pleased to work with Intel and Legend to help strengthen Legend's leadership position in the Chinese PC market with the i2 SCM solution."

Legend will also explore future collaboration with Intel and i2 to deliver a comprehensive SCM solution to enterprise end-users in the People's Republic of China.

"The successful implementation of this solution will help strengthen the position of Intel-based servers in the business-critical application space," said Avneesh Saxena, director, Computing Systems IDC Asia/Pacific. "SCM is a burgeoning solution area, and the strategy of these three companies to promote the i2 and Intel solution makes sense both within and outside the PRC."
