Intel Press Release

Allscripts And Intel Team To Advance Wireless Computing For Physicians

Companies to Focus on Wireless Connectivity and Joint Marketing

Libertyville, Ill., May 15, 2001 -- Allscripts Healthcare Solutions and Intel Corporation today announced an agreement to help accelerate the adoption of wireless computing for integrated healthcare delivery networks. The combination of Allscripts TouchWorks™ solution and the Intel® PRO/Wireless 2011 LAN products gives physicians the ability to access information wirelessly while moving through the most common tasks associated with providing care, such as prescribing medication, dictating notes and capturing billable activities.

Intel and Allscripts recently began working together to enhance the performance of wireless connectivity for physicians utilizing the iPAQ* Pocket PC from Compaq. Allscripts has selected the Intel® PRO/Wireless 2011 LAN PC Card as part of its drive to make point-of-care computing faster and easier for physicians. Intel will support Allscripts with technical expertise for its wireless connectivity solution, which is based on the IEEE 802.11b (also know as Wi-Fi™) wireless networking specification. Intel will also contribute marketing funds to help accelerate the adoption of the wireless technology. Allscripts recently announced similar technology alliances with Compaq and Microsoft.

"Physicians want to spend time with their patients, not at their desks," said Stephen Saltzman, general manager of Intel's Wireless LAN Operation. "Allscripts wireless solutions are utilized by thousands of physicians today because they free physicians from their offices without sacrificing access to the information needed to make important health care decisions."

Allscripts and Intel will conduct joint forums with the chief information officers and physician executives of leading health care organizations on how wireless point-of-care systems can help lower cost while simultaneously improving the quality of patient care. The companies will also demonstrate the solution at various healthcare and technology events.

"Our agreement with Intel completes Allscripts' goal of assembling key infrastructure companies to help accelerate the adoption of point-of-care computing using premier software, hardware and wireless technology," said Glen Tullman, Allscripts' chief executive officer. "By combining the Allscripts software and services with products from industry leaders such as Intel, Compaq and Microsoft, we believe we have an powerful combination for successfully automating healthcare processes."
