Intel Announces Availability Of The Intel® Converged Communications Platform

NETWORLD + INTEROP SPRING 2001, LAS VEGAS, May 7, 2001 - Intel Corporation today announced general availability and pricing of the Intel® Converged Communications Platform 2100. This open standards-based, application-ready platform supports a broad range of compatible telephony and business software applications, peripherals and services from multiple vendors on a single system, allowing small-sized to medium-sized companies to rapidly and cost effectively expand their business communications capabilities at any time.

Unlike the typical industry practice of delivering communications solutions such as PBX, call center and voice messaging systems via proprietary, closed-box models that are relatively expensive to upgrade, the Intel Converged Communications Platform facilitates the addition of services and applications from a choice of vendors on a single system. This provides companies with an open migration path to easily and cost-effectively upgrade and scale their communication solutions as their business needs evolve. For example, businesses can start with an analog or digital phone service and move to IP trunking or IP phones at any time, while their applications stay the same.

The CT Media™ server software at the core of the Intel Converged Communications Platform also enables customers to migrate to voice over IP (VoIP) networking. VoIP allows businesses with multiple sites to reduce the cost of long distance calling by routing calls inexpensively over the Internet.

The Intel Converged Communications Platform has an intuitive user interface and capabilities for remote system management, which can reduce administrative costs and increase productivity of system administrators. The platform is also easy to install - simply plug it in and get a dial tone.

Intel is transforming the telecommunications market segment by supporting standards and providing open platforms for solution delivery," said Howard Bubb, vice president and general manager of Intel's Telecommunications and Embedded Group. "Our solution supports both traditional voice infrastructure and IP-based telephony, which enables our customers to migrate at their own pace without over-investing in any one area. In this way, we are making convergence more than just an industry buzzword, we are bringing converged communications easily and cost-effectively to the hands of the businesses that need it most."

Based on Dialogic® CT Media™ server software and the CT Media Enterprise Softswitch Framework, the Intel Converged Communications Platform, combined with applications provided by CT Media Value Network members, provides customers with a variety of choices for their business critical communication needs. The CT Media Value Network is a collaborative community of companies providing standards-based applications, platforms, peripherals, services and sales channels based on Dialogic CT Media server software. These applications include:

  • Software PBX - Artisoft Inc.
  • Messaging - Ambell; Artisoft Inc.; BBX Technologies, LLC; Brooktrout Software; CTL, Elix - Office Telephony Division; Envox; Intersis; Novavox; Sound Advantage
  • Fax Servers - Black Ice; Rainbow; Onset; Optus; and System Solutions
  • IVR and Voice Portals - Elix, Interactive Northwest Inc; and Sound Advantage
  • Contact Center - Ambell; Coactive Systems; Elix; TriVium and Webversa
  • Call Reporting and Administration - Gallery Telecom Solutions; Iconics; Taske; Trisys; TriVium; and Webversa
  • Toolkits - Black Ice, Brooktrout Software; Elix; Envox; Parity and Webversa

"Ensuring interoperability of applications is critical because customers do not want to waste time or money trying to get all the components of their systems to work together," said Steve Manson, president and chief executive officer of Artisoft. "With the introduction of Artisoft's TeleVantage CTM Suite, a software-based phone system developed on CT Media, as well as a multitude of other applications that reside on the Intel Converged Communications Platform, Artisoft and Intel have created a seamless converged communications solution that enables companies to focus on the business they do best and serve their customers most effectively."

"SimpleRM with the Intel Converged Communications Platform provides unprecedented functionality and ease of use for today's fast-growing eCRM market by providing an integrated suite of applications that enable affordable 'out of the box' sales, marketing, customer support and management functionality for our customers," said Mathews Manaloor, President and chief executive officer of TriVium Systems. This combined solution provides small-sized to medium-sized businesses with an affordable version of call center, contact center and eCRM services traditionally only available for large organizations, allowing them to integrate off-the-shelf solutions, rather than buying and maintaining costly, proprietary custom solutions."

"With the range of applications and services offered on the Intel Converged Communications Platform, we can rapidly meet the changing needs of our customers' businesses and expand our market offerings at any time," said Chuck Garabedian, president and chief executive officer, Intelliphone, a reseller specializing in converged communications solutions. "In addition, the ease of installation of the platform and its remote management capabilities allow us to provide customers with effective system integration services and technical support that they demand."
