Intel Online Services Signs BBC Technology

READING, England, April 26, 2001 - Intel Online Services, Inc. today announced that it will provide co-location services to BBC Technology for the delivery of the BBC's streaming media service to global business clients. BBC Technology is a wholly owned commercial subsidiary of the BBC.

Intel Online Services' co-location services provide customers with network connections and flexible hardware options for hosting e-Business applications in a secure and controlled environment. This is particularly important for the digital transmission of rich media over the Internet. BBC Technology will utilize Intel Online Services data center near Reading in the UK to host its streaming media service.

"Delivering video over the Internet requires a hosting environment with back up power, redundancy, and multiple connections to the Internet to ensure that media streams are maintained at all times," explained Richard Dracott, director of marketing and services for Intel Online Services. "Intel Online Services gives BBC Technology the reliability and flexibility to scale its streaming media service to meet the demands of its customers."

"Intel Online Services' highly secure and reliable data center gives us the ability to double our capacity and provide service to commercial customers," said Philip Langsdale, chief executive of BBC Technology. "The expertise we have gained in supporting BBC programming on all platforms puts us in a unique position to offer that expertise to other media communications companies."

In addition, BBC Technology has purchased some of Intel's innovative streaming media assets from Intel's former Internet Media Services. This will enable BBC Technology to double their streaming media capacity.
