Intel Press Release

Intel Licenses Software To POPcast For Easy-To-Use Multimedia Communications On The Internet

Internet Portals, ISPs and Corporations Can Now Enable Users With Easy-to-Use Authoring, Publishing and Sharing Services

NEW YORK, June 12, 2000 -- Intel Corporation and POPcast Communications Corporation today announced an agreement that includes the integration of the Internet multimedia authoring capabilities of the Intel® Easy Web Media software into POPcast's customizable POPcaster™ software. The Intel software, combined with POPcast's advanced self-serve publishing and sharing service, offer one of the world's easiest ways for Internet portals, Internet service providers (ISPs) and corporations to enable users with streaming media services.

As part of the agreement, POPcast will offer its service utilizing both Intel Online Services' data hosting capabilities as well as Intel Internet Media Services video streaming offering. The new software will premiere today here at the Streaming Media East show, along with complete POPcast solution demonstrations.

"This software is part of Intel's strategy to develop technologies that improve the user's experience on the Internet," said David Ryan, director of technology marketing at the Intel Architecture Labs. "By integrating our software into its services, POPcast is able to offer a very easy way to communicate via the Internet for both businesses and consumers."

How the Technology Works
POPcaster combines POPcast's video capturing and automated video publishing solution with Intel® Easy Web Media complete multimedia authoring technology. This all-in-one tool allows users to capture video through a wide variety of capture devices (such as cameras and scanners) and combine digital video files with text, still images and audio in their finished presentations. The complete files can be uploaded to users' personal accounts on POPcast's clients' Web sites, where they can instantly be shared with anyone around the world over the Internet via POPcast's distributed streaming media network. POPcast also allows its partners to easily customize and brand the POPcaster software and service interface, whether it is for business or personal applications.

"Needless to say, this is a very exciting development in moving the industry forward, and specifically for POPcast partners - as well as their consumer and business users - all around the world," said William Mutual, POPcast's founder and chairman. "The barriers are falling - by combining our cutting-edge technologies with those of Intel's, it's now easier than ever for anyone to create and share streaming video over the Web."

Uses for the Technology
Once members of any POPcast-enabled Web portal or Internet business have created their digital video files and uploaded them to their accounts, they can then send a customized e-mail message containing a Web link to their content. They can also share videos in a variety of ways, such as video albums, video greeting cards and public showcases. POPcaster can be downloaded today from POPcast.com, which also offers a wealth of helpful information, including a comprehensive tutorial, a POPcast Publishing Wizard and links to other digital audio and video resources.
