Intel Announces New Customers Of Its Internet Authentication Services Business

e-DOCS and Medem to Accept AMA Physician Credential on Internet Health Sites

DALLAS, April 11, 2000 - Intel Corporation today announced new customers of its Intel® Internet Authentication Services business (IAS), which brings trusted health communications and transactions to the Internet. The announcement was made at HIMSS, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society conference.

The physician Web sites e-DOCS and Medem today announced they will accept the American Medical Association (AMA) digital credential to provide physicians with access to trusted Internet health communications and transactions on their Web sites.

"Bringing trust to Internet health is a key step in helping the $1.2 trillion dollar U.S. health care industry move to the Internet," said Steven McGeady, vice president of Intel's New Business Group. "The growing interest in the AMA physician credential reflects the health care industry's commitment to taking advantage of Internet technology while protecting sensitive information. Intel is pleased to provide technology services that help enable Internet health."

Medem, a network formed by some of the nation's leading medical organizations, will accept the AMA digital credential to authenticate physician identity for access to its online network. e-DOCS plans to accept the AMA credential to provide physicians with online access to medical transcripts and other trusted information.

"We believe Intel Internet Authentication Services will provide e-DOCS physicians with a secure, trustworthy environment to work online," said Tim Connolly, chairman of e-DOCS.net. "We are confident it will provide the e-DOCS Physician Network with the stringent security requirements demanded by the healthcare industry."

"Security is a paramount concern for doctors and patients communicating on the Web," said Ed Fotsch, chief executive officer of Medem. "Working with Intel and the AMA on the physician digital credential will help ensure that Medem delivers secure Internet health services and communications that will empower both physicians and patients."

The Intel® Internet Authentication Services business develops and operates online authentication services for organizations and Internet health sites that offer branded credentials to their users. IAS enables remote credential retrieval when users need access from a different computer, and performs maintenance to keep credentials current. IAS does not collect, store or manage health care information, and Internet health sites do not have access to a credential user's security information.

Intel IAS previously announced agreements with Franklin Health Inc., Healtheon/WebMD Corp., MedQuist Inc. and WellMed Inc., which plan to use Intel's authentication services for a variety of trusted online provider and patient applications.
