Intel Introduces Pentium® III Processors At 866 And 850 MHz
SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 20, 2000 -- Intel Corporation today introduced Intel® Pentium® III processors at 866 and 850 MHz, providing high-performance processors for both home and business computing.
The Pentium III processors at 866 and 850 MHz are designed to power an Internet experience filled with rich audio, video, animations and 3-D that make information come alive. These Pentium III processors are available now in systems from numerous PC manufacturers.
"The Intel Pentium III processor at 866 and 850 MHz enables powerful personal computers for running rich software and media, both in the home and in business," said Pat Gelsinger, vice president and general manager, Intel's Desktop Products Group.
High Performance Features
Last October, Intel introduced Pentium III processors featuring an integrated Level 2 cache that runs at the full speed of the processor core. This feature, named the Advanced Transfer Cache, enables application performance to scale with increasing clock frequencies. This technology is a key to the outstanding performance of the Pentium III processor. Most other processors on the market offer older technologies that keep the cache memory from operating at full frequencies, limiting the PC's full ability to deliver performance to the user. The Pentium III processor at 866 MHz provides a SPECint2000* result of 374 and a SPECfp2000* of 266. The 850 MHz version provides a SPECint2000 result of 356 and a SPECfp2000 of 240.**
Pricing and Availability
The Pentium III processors at 866 and 850 MHz are available now in both SECC2 and FC-PGA packaging. The 866 MHz is priced at $776 in 1,000-unit quantities. The 850 MHz is priced at $765.
