DSPC PDC Single Chip Baseband Solution Selected By Toshiba For Its New PDC Handsets
FOLSOM, Calif. - May 26, 2000 - DSPC, an Intel company, today announced that Toshiba has selected its single chip baseband solution for the new Toshiba PDC wireless handsets.
Toshiba's new PDC handset will use a new design of PDC single chip baseband solution - the D5315 mixed signal ASIC, that is developed by DSPC. This ASIC is one of the "PDCharm" series of devices supplied by DSPC to the Japanese PDC market. It integrates ARM7™ as the micro-controller, used together with integrated peripherals and DMA controller for advanced data services and improved performance. It also integrates the LEAD™ powerful DSP of Texas Instruments, on which DSPC has developed and continues to develop numerous efficient and innovative algorithms using digital signal processing techniques. In addition, the D5315 is designed in a flexible way to enable easy support of new data services (as required by either ARIB standard 27H or by PDC carriers), and provides high voice quality and several innovative audio features. The highly integrated chip uses 1.8V core supply, features very low power consumption and requires very small printed circuit board space.
Toshiba's new PDC handsets will continue to provide high quality voice and communications performance, and will be available in the market in 2001.
"We are very pleased with DSPC's PDC technology and algorithms, and with the use of the ARM7™ micro-controller, that will enable us to provide new and improved handsets," said Fumio Oowada, Toshiba Corporation Digital Media Network Company, Hino Operations - Digital Media Equipment, Senior Fellow.
"DSPC is very pleased with the opportunity to support Toshiba in the PDC market by developing and providing an advanced baseband solution to be integrated into Toshiba's mobile phones," said Ofer Elazar, DSPC's business unit manager for PDC. "We are committed to providing our customers with state-of-the-art solutions and supporting them in order to reach large volume production. With our new generation of PDC single chip baseband solution, we will provide stronger performance and richer functionality to help our customers in this competitive market."
DSPC, an Intel company, is a leading developer and supplier of chipsets and software to mobile phone manufacturers. DSPC develops, markets, licenses, and sells application specific integrated circuits (ASICs) based on digital signal processing (DSP) technology, software stacks, and reference design development kits for advanced wireless voice and data communications applications. DSPC wireless technology products support leading global standards for TDMA, PDC, and CDMA and will also support emerging third generation (3G) standards based on CDMA such as Wideband CDMA. The company's PDC baseband solutions are already used by more handset makers than any other PDC solution available in the market. For more information, please visit http://www.dspc.com.
