Intel Press Release

Intel And ChoiceSeat™ Collaborate To Advance Interactive Sports Technology

Stadium-Based, Enhanced Sports Entertainment Network Unveiled at Madison Square Garden

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and NEW YORK, Nov. 29, 1999 - Intel Corporation and CSI, Inc., today announced they have signed a development agreement to advance CSI's ChoiceSeat™ technology, which provides an interactive experience to sports fans. The current version of the technology was recently unveiled at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Under the agreement, Intel and CSI will develop high-quality PC-based solutions that will enable the delivery of personalized instant replays, real time statistics and other interactive sports data and information to PCs built into stadium seats. The companies plan to extend the service to broadband-connected fans in their homes and other gathering places.

Using ChoiceSeat, a fan can direct an interactive sports experience. At live events, 10-inch touch-screen monitors integrated into seat backs offer features to make the game experience more interesting, informative and convenient. Fans can select from multiple camera angles, replays, real-time and historical statistics, team and venue information, or purchase merchandise and concessions. Interactive advertising and e-business capabilities are integrated into ChoiceSeat programming.

At Madison Square Garden, ChoiceSeat technology is located in four sections of club seating and all luxury suites during Rangers, Knicks and Liberty games and will be rolled out in all club seats by next season. ChoiceSeat prototype technology developed by Williams Communications was initially piloted with the San Diego Padres in 1997 and 1998. Since that time, ChoiceSeat has broadcast at Super Bowls XXXII and XXXIII, the 1998 World Series games in San Diego, and home games of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

"We're excited to be working with Intel, which offers a depth of technology and software expertise around the PC and other computing platforms," said Mary Frost, president and CEO of CSI, Inc.

"The Internet has tremendous potential to enhance the fan experience both in and out of the stadium," said Ronald J. Whittier, senior vice president and general manager of Intel Content Services. "By investing in and working with companies such as ChoiceSeat, Intel can offer complete Internet services that will open new market segments and create new service and sales opportunities for the sports and entertainment community."

In addition to the joint development agreement with ChoiceSeat, Intel has made an equity investment in CSI, Inc. Financial details were not disclosed. Williams Communications, which initiated the ChoiceSeat concept through its Vyvx™ broadcast unit in 1996-97, continues to hold a majority interest in CSI.

"Engaging in development work with Intel - and having Intel as an investor - should aid ChoiceSeat as it enables the convergence of computer and Internet capabilities with existing competencies in sports and television," said Del Bothof, president of Williams Communications' domestic investments.

The technology agreement and the equity investment in CSI, Inc., are part of Intel's strategy to develop and deploy technology that can bring rich interactive video and data to fans seated in a venue or to locations outside the stadium, such as sports-themed entertainment facilities, homes and offices.
