Intel and Dassault* Systemes To Work Together on Software Optimization for Intel Architecture and Pentium® III Xeon™ Processor
CeBit, Germany, 18th March 1999 - Intel Corporation and Dassault* Systemes (NASDAQ: DASTY) have agreed to work together to optimise CATIA**, the world's leading CAD/CAM/CAE software for current and future generations of Intel microprocessors. As a first fruit of this collaboration, Dassault Systemes's CATIA Version 5 takes advantage of the performance boost offered by the Pentium® III Xeon™ processor. Launched at CeBit, the Pentium III Xeon processor offers the workstation user industry-leading price performance, and incorporates Intel's leading edge technology Internet Streaming SIMD extensions, which deliver enhanced 3-D graphic visualization, improved video and animation capabilities.
The collaboration between Intel and Dassault Systemes, formalised in a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in November 1998, will ensure the availability of industry-leading CATIA Solutions on Intel Architecture platforms now and in the future. CATIA customers will benefit from the combination of both companies' leading-edge technologies, and from Intel Architecture as it evolves through both 32- and 64-bit platforms. As part of the agreement, Intel will support Dassault Systemes' laboratories, ensuring that development and implementation plans are synchronized.
"This agreement is another step forward for the adoption of Intel Architecture in the workstation market segment. Most of the largest and most prestigious automobile, aerospace, heavy equipment, and consumer goods manufacturers in the world use CATIA as the core component of their product and process development. They'll now be able to do that work even more effectively and productively on the Intel Architecture," said Anand Chandrasekher, general manager of Intel's Workstation Products Group. "Our companies share the same vision for providing unique, high-end technologies and value to customers. Intel's commitment to working with Dassault Systemes will ensure that CATIA on Intel Architecture-based workstations delivers best of class performance."
"We are extremely pleased to establish this technological collaboration between our two companies, " said Bernard Charles, president of Dassault Systemes. This is great news for CATIA Version 5 customers who will take advantage of the native implementation of CATIA Version 5 on Intel Architecture and from Pentium III Xeon processor performance boost."
CATIA Solutions on Intel Architecture widens access to advanced and scalable product modeling applications and increases productivity. CATIA Version 5 has been completely re-engineered to maximise the benefit and the advantages offered by the Intel Architecture. It utilizes next generation object technologies and leading-edge industry standards and delivers an innovative and intuitive user interface. The result is an easy to install, fun to learn, and natural to use system. Its native OLE and Internet/intranet web compliance enables system integration within the office environment and across the digital enterprise. CATIA Version 5 delivers breakthrough, scalable applications for companies at all levels in design automation. At its core, CATIA Version 5 builds on powerful smart modeling concepts enabling the capture and re-use of corporate engineering knowledge and the implementation of generative rule-based product development processes. Version 5 offers compatibility with Version 4. This allows both systems to be used together and provides a smooth progression for existing users.
