Intel 64 Fund Announces Initial Investments In Emerging Technology Companies

The Boeing Company, Enron Join Investment Group

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 22, 1999 -- Intel Corporation today announced the first five equity investments made by the Intel 64 Fund in technology companies committed to developing products for the IA-64 product family. In addition, Intel announced that The Boeing Company and Enron have joined the group of corporate users participating in the Intel 64 Fund.

Companies receiving funding include Extricity Software, Inc., Monterey Designs Systems Inc., SpeechWorks International, Inc., TimesTen Performance Software and WebLine Communications.

Companies in the Intel 64 Fund portfolio are developing a broad range of technologies which support high end server and workstation solutions optimized for the IA-64 processor family, starting with the Merced processor. Server applications under development include packaged business-to-business integration applications from Extricity; phone-based speech applications for e-commerce transactions from SpeechWorks; high-performance in-memory database technology from TimesTen and visual collaboration solutions for e-commerce and e-service from WebLine. Monterey Design Systems will provide integrated physical design solutions for the electronic design automation workstation market.

The Intel 64 Fund is a quarter billion dollar equity investment fund created to invest in companies developing innovative Internet, enterprise and workstation applications based on Intel's forthcoming IA-64 architecture, beginning with the Merced processor. The investment focus will be on tools and technology in areas such as e-commerce, Internet infrastructure, advanced enterprise resource planning, design automation, and financial applications and services. All applications will be optimized for IA-64-based platforms and run on a full range of volume operating systems.

The fund is coordinated by Intel - with Compaq, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, NEC, and SGI participating as co-investors. The fund's other investors, managed by Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, include Bank of America, The Boeing Company, Circuit City, Enron, Ford Motor Company, General Electric, McKessonHBOC, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Reuters, Sabre, SmithKline Beecham, Sumitomo Corporation, SunAmerica and Telmex.
