Intel Press Release

Homer J. Simpson to Receive Brain Upgrade Courtesy of Intel Sunday, Nov. 8, on FOX

World's Greatest Technological Achievement to Be Broadcast Live During the Season Premiere of the X-Files

SANTA CLARA, Calif, Oct. 28, 1998 -- Intel Corporation announced today that after 10 years as America's favorite father, Homer J. Simpson is finally going to get the help he needs -- an upgrade. As the star of Intel's latest Intel Inside™ brand commercial, Homer Simpson is set to undergo surgery to replace the world's most famous inferior brain with the Intel™ Pentium™ II processor.

The goal of the new Intel spot is to educate consumers about the role and value of having an Intel processor inside their computer. According to the new ad, the processor is like the brain inside the computer. By transforming the often-confused father from Fox's THE SIMPSONS into a college professor, Intel hopes to show that an Intel processor equals a smarter computer.

"Homer Simpson is the perfect vehicle to communicate that having an Intel processor makes your computer smarter," said Joann O'Brien, Intel's Worldwide Consumer Advertising manager. "Not only is he entertaining to watch, but more importantly, consumers can understand the message -- if an Intel chip can turn Homer Simpson into a scholar, imagine what it can do for your PC."

The 30-second commercial, called "Homer's Smarter Brain," was created by Euro RSCG/DSW Partners and will debut during the season premiere of THE X-FILES on Sunday, Nov. 8 (9 - 10 p.m. ET/PT) on FOX. "Homer's Smarter Brain" is scheduled to run during primetime, late night and sports programs until Dec. 31.

"Partnering on a co-branding promotional advertising campaign with a proven category leader like Intel is right on target with our strategic plans for an evergreen property like THE SIMPSONS," noted Sabrina Ironside, Executive Director, Worldwide Television Promotions, Twentieth Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising. "Through this collaboration, the multi-generational appeal and freshness of THE SIMPSONS is brought to an even higher level, furthering its penetration of the national psyche."

"Working with the people at Fox has been a real pleasure," O'Brien said. "THE SIMPSONS is a first-class property and allowed us to put forth a truly entertaining and strategic commercial."

Currently in its 10th season, THE SIMPSONS is the longest-running animated series in primetime television history and longest-running sitcom on television. The show airs Sundays (8 - 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on FOX). THE SIMPSONS, created by Matt Groening, is produced by Gracie Films in association with Twentieth Century Fox Television. James L. Brooks, Groening and Mike Scully are executive producers. Film Roman is the animation house.
