New Intel Create & Share Camera Pack Includes 56 kbps Video Phone-Ready Modem, Capture Card
More Retailers Sign on to Sell Camera Packs
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 1997 - Intel Corporation today introduced a new version of its Intel Create & Share Camera Pack that will bring imaging and communications capabilities to more consumers.
The Intel Create & Share Camera Pack PCI Modem is designed for Pentium® processor-based personal computers that run at 90 MHz and higher. It lets consumers make video phone calls to other video phone users over regular phone lines or the Internet. With a powerful 56Kbps video phone-ready modem based on Rockwell K56Flex* technology, the new camera pack version upgrades older PCs that have slower modems, while providing the benefits of high-quality Intel Video Phone over both regular phone lines and the Internet.
In addition, the video capture capabilities and 56Kbps modem are integrated into a single PCI card requiring only one PCI slot, a design feature that makes installation easier for consumers.
The camera pack - color-coded in bright orange packaging to distinguish it from Universal Serial Bus (USB) and PCI versions launched in September - includes an Intel PC Camera, a high-performance 56Kbps video capture/modem card, microphone, and a suite of Intel Create & Share software. It is available now in leading computer retailers and office super stores. The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price is $399.
More Retailers to Sell Camera Packs
More retailers have signed on to sell camera packs. They are Best Buy, BrandsMart, Circuit City, Future Shop, OfficeMax, Staples and Sun TV & Appliances. They join Computer City, CompUSA, Micro Center and The Good Guys.
Intel Retail Channel Manager Troy Severson said that since August nearly a half million shoppers have made video phone calls from camera pack demonstration kiosks located in retail stores.
"Consumers have shown tremendous interest in using an Intel PC camera to expand the way they use their personal computers to communicate with family and friends," Severson said.
Some of the most popular uses for the Intel Create & Share Camera Pack include:
- Personalizing e-mail postcards, greeting cards and calendars with snapshots;
- Making video phone calls to other video phone users over the Internet or regular phone lines;
- Adding "streaming" video clips to personal web pages;
- Shrinking, stretching and "morphing" images for fun;
- Sending personalized video greetings by e-mail.
Software Suite Includes Guided Tour All three versions of the camera pack include the Intel Create & Share software suite, which offers the following applications:
- The CD-ROM-based Intel Guided Tour replaces bulky manuals to visually introduce users to the capabilities of the camera pack.
- The Intel Launcher and Intel Gallery unify the included software applications under one umbrella. Together, they make it easy to organize snapshots and videos made with the camera pack and to access the included applications.
- The Intel Scene Recorder is an easy way to record a short video or take an instant snapshot with just a few mouse clicks. Using other Intel Create & Share software, snapshots can be used to personalize cards and calendars. Advanced features make it easy to make streaming videos that others can view from a personal web page.
- PhotoEnhancer* lets users quickly and easily enhance snapshots taken with the Intel PC camera. With this application, cards and calendars can be personalized with enhanced snapshots.
- NetCard* lets consumers e-mail postcards that come to life with pictures and sound.
- Kai's Power GOO* SE lets users add whimsy to snapshots using simple techniques to stretch, shrink and "morph" images into new, fun versions. The new versions can be used with other camera pack applications.
- Intel Video Phone lets users see and hear family and friends over the Internet as well as over regular phone lines.
