Intel LANDesk Management Suite Extends Reach Through Inclusion in New IBM Suites for Windows* NT*
New Release of LANDesk Management Suite Offers Improved Functionality for Existing Intel Customers and New Users of IBM NT Suites
HILLSBORO, Ore., May 6, 1998 – Intel Corporation today announced the inclusion of Intel LANDesk Management Suite, the industry leader in desktop systems management, in the new IBM Suite for Windows* NT* and Enterprise Suite for Windows NT, also announced today.
This agreement is the latest result of the IBM/Intel Advanced Manageability Alliance, which is focused on building outstanding solutions based on industry standards that simplify systems management for PC customers.
"Intel's strengths in desktop and server management combined with IBM's end-to-end NT suite products provide complete solutions for companies of all sizes," said Ed Ekstrom, vice president, Intel Small Business and Networking Group, and general manager, Systems Management Division. "IBM's inclusion of LANDesk Management Suite in its new suites for Windows NT offers us a tremendous opportunity to bring our best-of-breed management solution to a host of new customers."
"The integration of Intel LANDesk Management Suite into IBM's suites for Windows NT gives our customers and business partners, who are looking to lower their total costs of computing, unbeatable value," said Steve Mills, general manager, IBM Software Solutions. "Intel is a leader in desktop systems management and LANDesk is a great complement to the line-up of cutting-edge technologies we've assembled in the suites."
Intel LANDesk Management Suite is an integrated set of powerful 32-bit management services that allows PCs in mixed Windows NT and NetWare* environments to be remotely managed and have problems corrected from a single control point. LANDesk Management Suite is the cornerstone of Intel's LANDesk family of products and plays a key role in helping IT managers better control the network life cycle: configuration and deployment, persistent management, and critical node protection.
LANDesk Management Suite complements Intel's Wired for Management (WFM) initiative, a wide-ranging effort to further reduce the costs of business computing without compromising necessary flexibility or performance. IT managers can provide off-hours maintenance from the LANDesk console by executing "remote wake-up" of unattended WFM-compliant PCs and Network PCs (Net PCs) for software distribution, inventory scans or remote problem resolution efforts.

Intel also announced today an updated version of its LANDesk Management Suite, which offers improved ease of use and extended capabilities that include:
- A "Year 2000 Capable"** Limited Warranty;
- Support for Oracle and DB2 UDB databases, to enhance performance and scaleability;
- Permissive metering, which complements restrictive metering to allow network administrators the option of monitoring the use of software applications within the organization without restricting access to those applications;
- Custom inventory collection forms, which permit network administrators to collect customized client profile and physical asset inventory information such as location, department and other user-specific information; and
- Network Directory Services (NDS) security templates, to allow network administrators to define remote control security rights within NDS for Novell NetWare customers.
LANDesk Management Suite has a suggested retail price of $50 per desktop for purchases of 1000 nodes or more. Additional volume pricing and upgrade programs are also available. All Intel networking products are available through a worldwide network of distributors and value-added resellers. Additional product information is available at (800) 538-3373 for U.S. and Canadian customers; at (44) 1-793-431-155 for European customers; or at (503) 264-7353 for other international customers.
