Deutsche Telekom Signs Agreement To Sell Intel Business Video Conferencing Systems In Germany

One of Desktop Video Conferencing's Largest Orders Will Bring ProShare® Technology to Businesses, Small Offices and Home Offices

HILLSBORO, Ore., Aug. 5, 1997 – Intel Corporation today announced that Deutsche Telekom AG (DT) will extend its existing agreement by taking an order for tens of thousands of units of the Intel Business Video Conferencing System over the next 12 months. This order is one of the largest ever for desktop video conferencing systems. The Intel Business Video Conferencing System, based on Intel's industry-leading ProShare® technology, gives PC users the ability to hold interactive audio, video and data exchanges with one another.

"Deutsche Telekom customers have demanded high-quality video conferencing that can help them meet their business challenges at a price they can afford," commented Gerhard Gatzmann, product manager for Multimedia Systems, Deutsche Telekom AG. "Their strong response to Intel's ProShare video conferencing technology convinced us to extend our commitment to Intel's business products."

"The power of Intel's MMX™ technology lets Intel deliver high-quality video conferencing products that turn a desktop into a telecommunications center," said Scott Darling, general manager for the Business Communications Products Operation of Intel. "Deutsche Telekom's increasing commitment to ProShare products reflects Intel's commitment to extending its technical leadership."

Intel ProShare products, marketed by DT since 1994, have rapidly become the world leader in desktop conferencing. Particularly popular in the services and industry sectors, ProShare products in Germany find wide use in distance learning, telecommuting and consulting applications as well as in integrated kiosk solutions in the banking industry. On July 25, 1997, DT announced that the German national railway, Deutsche Bahn, will install 1,000 of the new Intel Business Video Conferencing systems to enhance its PC-supported office communications.

Elsewhere in Europe, Intel holds marketing agreements with the largest telecommunications carriers. In addition to DT, British Telecommunications plc., France Telecom, PTT Netherlands, Telecom Italia and Telefonica of Spain market ProShare video conferencing products. Numerous agreements cover the rest of the world.
