Intel Introduces New Video Conferencing Product for All Business Environments

Intel Business Video Conferencing 4.0 Is the First to Work on LAN, ISDN and Internet, and on Multiple Windows* Operating Systems

ANAHEIM, Calif., Nov. 5, 1997 – Intel Corporation today introduced the first desktop video conferencing system that works on Windows* 95 and NT* 4.0 operating systems, on the Internet, and on the types of digital telephone lines and corporate networks used most often by businesses in the United States and around the world.

The new system is called Intel Business Video Conferencing 4.0 (iBVC 4.0) with ProShare® Technology. The latest in the company's industry-leading desktop video conferencing line, iBVC 4.0 is compatible with Windows NT Workstation 4.0, the operating system increasingly found in PCs used by businesses today. The Intel iBVC 4.0 system can also operate across a variety of transmission mediums, including Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), local area networks (LANs) and the Internet.

Scott Darling, general manager of the Intel Business Communications Products Operation, said the iBVC 4.0 system brings a long-awaited solution to businesses that have already invested in PC networks.

"Businesses want technology that can turn their existing resources into a competitive advantage," Darling said. "Our Intel Business Video Conferencing 4.0 works with the PC products or communications networks most businesses already use." Darling added that because Intel video conferencing products are PC-based, businesses are protected from investing and reinvesting in products based on limited proprietary technology.

A Host of Enhancements to Improve Business Communications
Additional enhancements available in Intel Business Video Conferencing 4.0 include the ability to:

  • Conduct Internet conference calls between companies with secure firewalls
  • Exchange high-resolution images in a photo album-like database
  • Control the amount of bandwidth used in making a video conference call on LANs
  • Take advantage of popular RADVision and VideoServer, Inc. gateways
  • Access financial and other information through Touch Tone* commands
  • Find other video conference system users through a call directory service

The new Intel Business Video Conferencing 4.0 with ProShare technology for desktop PCs will begin shipping later this month. The $1,199 suggested retail price for the ISDN/LAN desktop solution includes an audio/video board, ISDN adapter, camera, headset with microphone, desktop microphone, built-in acoustic echo cancellation, and software. English and German language versions of the product are expected to ship by the end of the month. French, Italian and Spanish language versions are planned to ship by year-end.
