MTV Online And Intel's Technology Sponsorship Enable Internet Users To Influence Live Television

MTV Online Users Have The Opportunity To Chat With MTV VJs and Celebrity Guests During "MTV Live" Programming

NEW YORK, N.Y., Dec. 9, 1997 -- MTV: MUSIC TELEVISION will bring on-air and online together with the launch of "The Live Link," it was announced by Matt Farber, senior vice president, Programming Enterprises, MTV. "The Live Link" will be featured during MTV programming including MTV's daily live show, "MTV Live," which airs Monday through Friday from 6 - 7 p.m. (ET). By combining MTV's unique programming environment, and a wide range of Intel technologies, "The Live Link" has been designed to deliver a new level of interactivity to MTV viewers and technology consumers.

MTV Online, the group which pioneered the convergence of TV and Online through MTV's "Yack Live" programming, will enable users to watch their MTV and contribute to and influence its programming, via their personal computer, during "The Live Link." Using Intel's technology, viewers will be able to interact with MTV on-air talent and guests in a variety of different ways, including videoconferencing with Intel's ProShare® technology, 3D avatar chat, traditional text chat, e-mail that appears on-air in real-time, Internet multi-player gaming, and video postcards created with Intel's Create and Share™ Camera Pack. Additionally "The Live Link" website on MTV.Com will allow users to tour the MTV Live studio via Ipix technology.

"MTV Online has been working hand-in-hand with the MTV producers to build a forum in which our users can interact with and help steer the course of the show," Farber said. "The 'Live Link' takes our on-air interactive programming one step further and allows us to communicate to a wider MTV audience around the world, and bring them closer to the artists they love. Our work with Intel allows us to link our audience to our studio, create exciting television programming, and get a first look at state of the art hardware and exciting new software."

Artists and guests on "MTV Live" will be able to interact with online users throughout MTV's new Times Square studio using Intel technology. The MTV studio features two PCs, a PC Theater, and workstation for the latest creativity and music based applications -- all utilizing the Pentium® II processor. All of the PCs can be used to interact with online fans, and influence MTV's programming. Additionally, PC kiosks are located around the country enabling fans to interact with MTV programming.

"Enabling and delivering compelling PC experiences to the youth market is critical to Intel," said Ann Lewnes, director, Worldwide Advertising, Intel Corporation. "Our sponsorship of 'MTV's Live Link' enables us to demonstrate what our technology can do for this important audience."

MTV's studio is home to MTV's first ever daily live programming, "MTV Live." "MTV Live" airs Monday to Friday from 6 - 7 p.m. (ET) and features music video programming, celebrity guest interviews, live performances, MTV News updates, and interactive elements with the crowds in Times Square.
