Intel Brings the First Live Internet Broadcast from China
HONG KONG, April 30, 1997 – With the support of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, Intel, the world's largest chip maker, will bring the world's first live broadcast over the Internet to users worldwide from Shanghai, People's Republic of China. Through the Internet and ChinaNet, China's largest service provider nationwide, the live Webcast will feature Intel's Connected PC in Business vision delivered by Intel President-Elect and Chief Operating Officer Dr. Craig Barrett. During his presentation, Barrett will also be making a major product announcement in support of Intel's vision for business computing.
Users on the Internet will not only experience Barrett live, but they can also see Sean Maloney, vice president and general manager of Intel Asia Pacific Operations, describing Intel's microprocessor technology offerings and illustrating how the capabilities and performance of Intel's latest microprocessors support the Connected PC in Business vision.
"We are very happy to receive the excellent support from the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications in China," Maloney said. "And we appreciate the cooperation from Beijing Telegraph Co. and Shanghai Telegraph Co. on the technical set-up to make this first ever Webcast a success.
"We are now living in a connected society, through the Internet -- the new online community where distance and time are virtualized," Maloney said. "Your PC becomes a powerful instrument for communication and access to information."
