Intel Lowers Cost of Business Computing with New LANDesk® Management Suite v2.5
Windows NT* and Internet Capabilities Expand Intel Architecture Management Solution
HILLSBORO, Ore., April 22, 1996 - Intel Corporation today announced new and enhanced management capabilities in the new LANDesk® Management Suite v2.5 that reduce the PC support costs found in business computing. New features--including support for Windows* NT* environments and for management over the Internet--provide greater control and increased user uptime for Intel architecture-based PC networks.
"Intel is delivering on two commitments: making the Intel architecture easy to manage, and lowering the costs of business computing," said Ed Ekstrom, general manager of Intel's Network Products Division. "The new LANDesk Management Suite v2.5 is a robust, full-featured solution for managing clients and servers over the network, and it helps customers realize the full benefits of systems based on Pentium® Pro and Pentium processors."
For customers who are adding Windows NT-based systems in their enterprises, LANDesk Management Suite v2.5 provides powerful tools to help manage those transitions. The new product provides an integrated suite of critical management applications that support blended NetWare* and Windows NT servers and their clients, saving administration time and increasing user productivity.
A New Bottom Line for Business Computing
Intel introduced the award-winning, full-featured LANDesk Management Suite v2.0 as the first integrated desktop management suite designed for Novell NetWare-based PC LANs in January 1995. The LANDesk Management Group of products leads the LAN management market segment with 35 percent share for 1995, according to International Data Corporation. With the release of LANDesk Management Suite v2.5, Intel is adding Windows NT support to enable centralized control of the multiple network operating system (NOS) environments found in business computing today.
LANDesk Management Suite v2.5 offers integrated multi-NOS management to DOS, Windows* 3.x and Windows 95 workstations that log into both NetWare and Windows NT, enabling customers to control a multi-NOS LAN from one central console. The software can dynamically discover and manage the complete range of Microsoft network devices and Windows NT domains. In addition, LAN administrators can also now conduct inventory and remote control operations on IBM OS/2 workstations.
The new LANDesk Management Suite v2.5 includes upgrades of key v2.0 applications including remote control and inventory, software distribution, server monitoring, metering, centralized alerting, print management, and DMI management.
Advanced Management Features for Internet, Intranets and DMI
LANDesk Management Suite v2.5 enables LAN administrators to employ the Internet and intranets for major management tasks today, increasing their flexibility and access to clients. By supporting Internet TCP/IP, key LANDesk applications such as remote control, inventory and software distribution can be used over the Internet through use of WINSOCK-compatible IP (v1.1 or higher). With this capability, for example, virtually any web-enabled intranet client can be remotely accessed and inventoried and can receive software distributions from LANDesk Management Suite.
LANDesk Management Suite v2.5 also allows LAN administrators to take better advantage of products supporting the Desktop Management Interface (DMI). The software makes it possible to filter DMI indications to the LANDesk Alert Management System (AMS), which in turn executes the appropriate corrective action or notification. With this new feature, AMS allows customers to proactively manage even more aspects of the network, minimizing crisis situations and maximizing network uptime.
