How to Configure Storage Options for the Intel® Server Board 5000 Series Family

The following table describes how to configure storage options on Intel® Server Boards 5000 series.

Notes
  • Software RAID = Intel® Embedded Server RAID Technology II, utilizing system processors and memory
  • Hardware RAID = Intel® Integrated Server RAID, utilizing dedicated Intel® 333 I/O Processor and dedicated memory for outstanding performance and reliability

  1. Select Advanced > ATA Controller Configuration.
  2. Set On board SATA Controller to Enabled and SATA Mode to Legacy.

SATA AHCI (non-RAID) All SKUs
  1. Select Advanced > ATA Controller Configuration.
  2. Set On board SATA Controller to Enabled.
  3. Set SATA Mode to Enhanced.
  4. Set AHCI Mode to Enabled.
AHCI SATA Driver1 N/A
Direct SAS (non-RAID) See the RAID support matrix
  1. Select Advanced > Mass Storage Controller Configuration > Direct SAS.
  2. Set SAS Controller to Enabled.
  3. Set Configure SAS as SW RAID to Disabled.

SATA Software RAID 0, 1, 10 (ESB2) See the RAID support matrix
  1. Select Advanced > ATA Controller Configuration.
  2. Set On board SATA Controller to Enabled.
  3. Set SATA Mode to Enhanced.
  4. Set Configure SATA as RAID to Enabled.
SATA & SAS Software RAID Driver1 Press <Ctrl>-<E> during server boot-up to activate the Intel® Embedded Server RAID Technology II Configuration Utility.

  2. Set SAS Controller to Enabled.
  3. Set Configure SAS as SW RAID to Enabled.

SAS Hardware RAID 0, 1, 10, 5, 50 (LSI1068 & IOP80333) See the RAID support matrix Use the Intel® RAID activation key, AXXRAK18E, and an installed DDR2 Mini DIMM.
  1. Select Advanced > Mass Storage Controller Configuration.
  2. Set Enable Intel® SROMBSAS18E to Enabled.
SAS HW RAID Driver1 Press <Ctrl>-<G> during server boot-up to activate the Intel® RAID BIOS Console 2 Utility.
Intel® RAID Controller See the tested hardware and OS list for the appropriate Intel® Server Board. Install the Intel® RAID Controller. Download Intel® RAID controller driver Press <Ctrl>-<G> during server boot-up to activate the Intel® RAID BIOS Console or Intel® RAID BIOS Console 2 Utility, depending on the Intel® RAID Controller installed.
 
Note If the driver link takes you to a list of drivers, make sure to select the correct driver for the Intel® 5000 series Server Board.
