Why is my Signal Tap cross-trigger instance stuck at "Waiting for trigger"?

Environment

  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition
  • Signal Tap Logic Analyzer Intel® FPGA IP
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

Due to a problem in the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 24.1, you might see your Signal Tap instance stuck at "Waiting for Trigger". This problem occurs when the instance uses the Trigger Out signal from another Signal Tap instance as Trigger In.

    Resolution

To work around this problem, follow the next steps:

    1. Enable the Trigger out>Pin from the first or "triggering" instance and give it a name. For example: pin_stp_trigout.
    2. In the second or "triggered" instance, change the Trigger in>Instance for Trigger in>Pin.
    3. Write the pin_stp_trigout name on the Trigger in>Pin text box.

Note: This workaround requires a free device pin for the trigger out pin.

This problem is fixed in version 24.2 of the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software.
