Why does the E-Tile Ethernet IP for Intel Agilex® 7 FPGA IP core fail when performing dynamic reconfiguration between 100G-PAM4 and 4x25G NRZ modes?

Environment

    Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition

Red Hat Linux family*

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description

Due to a bug in the E-Tile Ethernet IP for Intel Agilex® 7 FPGA IP Core, when performing dynamic reconfiguration between 100G-PAM4 and 25G NRZ modes following the steps below, the reconfiguration interface will become unrecoverable, and 100G-PAM4 mode cannot be achieved.

1. Reconfig IP from 100G-PAM4 to 25G NRZ mode

2. Access 100G reconfig interface in 25G NRZ mode via "i/o_eth_reconfig_xxxxxx" ports

3. Reconfig from 25G NRZ mode back to 100G-PAM4 mode

"o_eth_reconfig_waitrequest" will stuck high and cannot be recovered by reset.

Resolution

This problem has been fixed starting from the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 23.1.
