Why do I see the Error "Operation failed" when "Run As > Ashling RISC-V (auto-detect) Hardware Debugging" in RiscFree* IDE?

Environment

  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Standard Edition
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

Due to a problem in the Quartus® Prime Standard Edition Software version 22.1 and earlier,  if a 16-bit Data Width Avalon® Memory Mapped Slave (e.g. OCRAM) is connected to Nios® V/m processor as Instruction and Data memory, it will result in below error when you run "Run As > Ashling RISC-V (auto-detect) Hardware Debugging" in RiscFree* IDE:

    error

    Resolution

To workaround this problem, add an Avalon® -MM Pipeline Bridge between your Nios® V and your slave memory (e.g. OCRAM)  in Platform Designer.

This problem is scheduled to be fixed in a future Quartus® Prime Standard Edition Software version.
