Why can't I fit 4x100G Ethernet + PCIe Gen4x4 on an F-Tile in the Power Thermal Calculator (PTC)?

Environment

  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Design Software
  • Intel® FPGA Power Thermal Calculator
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

With the F-Tile channel placement tool, the user is able to fit four 100G ethernet instances plus one PCIe Gen4x4 onto a single F-Tile. However, due to a problem in the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 22.4, when trying to fit the following scheme to the Power Thermal Calculator (PTC), it gives the error:

"Row 1: Invalid combination of starting channel location and channel count. Channel locations will exceed 15, which is the maximum channel location available to the tile."

    Resolution

To work around this problem in the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 22.4, the user may have to change the Modulation Mode to PAM4 and Digital/Analog Interface Width to 64.
