Why does the ALTMEMMULT IP generate for Intel® Arria® 10 devices when it should error out?

Environment

  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition
  • ALTMEMMULT Intel® FPGA IP
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT

    Critical Issue

    Description

Due to a problem in the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 19.1, you will be able to generate the ALTMEMMULT IP when targetting Intel® Arria®10 devices. This problem only occurs for configurations of the ALTMEMMULT IP that depend on the ALTACCUMULATE IP, as it has been deprecated for this and newer device families.

This message is displayed as an INFO message when it should be an ERROR message which would prevent the IP from being generated.

Verilog HDL or VHDL information at a_altmemmult_191_<Unique ID>.v(437): Error: The Arria 10 device family is not supported by altaccumulate.

    Resolution

To work around this problem, do not use unsupported IPs in the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 19.1

This problem is scheduled to be fixed in a future release of the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software.
