How to generate the .jic file for password-enabled FPGA devices after compile the project on Quartus® Prime Software?

Environment

  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

Due to password-enabled devices do not show up in the Convert Programming File and Programming File Generator tools, it fails to generate the jic file directly after compilation on Quartus® Prime Software. Such as device 1SX110HN2S1 does not show up in the Convert Programming File and Programming File Generator tools even you can compile the device on Quartus® Prime Software version 18.0.1.

    Resolution

The work-around is to do the file conversion using a COF or a PFG, where the password-enabled device is manually set as the helper device. It means that you can change the device part number directly after saving the .cof or .pfg file by selecting another device. After editing the .cof or .pfg file,  you can run the commands “quartus_cpf -c xx.cof” or “quartus_pfg -c xx.pfg” to generate the .jic file.
