Does the VIP suite MegaCore support Instance Parameters in Qsys?

Environment

    Quartus® II Subscription Edition
BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description

The Instance Parameters tab in Qsys allows user to define parameters for a Qsys system. You can use instance parameters to modify a Qsys system when you use the system as a subcomponent in another Qsys system. However, for some of the VIP suite MegaCore® functions you may be unable to find a correct parameter name from the Qsys Instance Parameters tab.

For example, when you create an instant parameter for the Frame Buffer MegaCore, you will receive the following error message when you click on “Preview Instance”:

Error: alt_vip_vfb_0: : There is no parameter named VFB_MAX_WIDTH on instance alt_vip_vfb_0

Resolution

Many of the older VIP suite MegaCore® functions do not accept standard Qsys parameters, thus parameters must only be set using the MegaCore’s graphical user interface (GUI) via Qsys. The newer Megacores (e.g. Scaler II, De-interlacer II, Clocked Video Input, Clocked Video Output, Control Synchronizer, Switch and Frame Reader) do support this Instance Parameters feature in Qsys.

Below is a list of VIP Suite MegaCores which currently do not support the Instance Parameter feature:

Frame Buffer

Alpha Blending Mixer

Color Space Converter

Chroma Resampler

Color Plane Sequencer

2D FIR Filter

2D Median Filter

Clipper

Deinterlacer

Gamma Corrector

Scaler

Test Pattern Generator

Interlacer

This issue will be fixed in a future version of the Quartus II software.
