If you apply a wildcard in the Virtual Pin assignment of the Quartus II software Assignment Editor, the Status column displays an error message

Critical Issue

Description

In the Assignment Editor, if you apply a Virtual Pin assignment and include a wildcard in the To column, the Assignment Editor erroneously displays Assignment does not support wildcard name in the Status column.

Resolution

Ignore the displayed Assignment does not support wildcard name. The Quartus II software supports the use of wildcards for virtual pin assignment.
