How can I calculate how much space is left in my configuration device with compression turned on?

Environment

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description

You can calculate how much space is left in your configuration device with compression turned on by following these steps:

  1. Use a typical compression factor of 30% to 55%.
  2. Multiply the uncompressed configuration files size (as stated in the respective device datasheet) by the typical compression factor.
  3. Subtract the value from step 2 with the maximum memory size of the configuration device.

Note: The 30% to 55% compression factor is only a typical value as stated in the respective device handbook.

Resolution

Example: The following calculation uses a Arria® V B5 device and an EPCQ128 configuration device using a 30% compression factor.

134,217,728 bits - (185,327,416 bits * 0.7) = 4,488,537 bits
