Error: Programming Object File does not have local update turned on

Environment

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description

You may receive this error message when adding the initial .pof file targeting a CFI flash device in the Convert Programming File utility.  The “Programmer Object File for Local Update” can be created only for the EPC4, EPC8, and EPC16 configuration devices. The “Programmer Object File for Local Update” option is not supported for CFI flash devices. You should generate the initial and partial programming files for configuration memory within the enhanced configuration devices (EPC4/8/16). Even though you can generate the initial file (.pof) targeting a CFI flash device, it cannot be supported or added into the “Programmer Object File for Local Update” option.

This also applies for the “Programmer Object File for Remote Update” option which only has support for the EPC4, EPC8, and EPC16 configuration devices.

In order to generate the appropriate .pof file targeting a CFI flash device for Local update mode, refer to the following steps:

  1. In the Assignments => Device => Device and Pin option, set the Configuration Mode to Local.
  2. Compile the project design to generate the appropriate .sof file.
  3. In the Convert Programming File utility choose the “Programmer Object File (.pof)” option.
  4. Add the generated .sof file to page_0 (as factory image). Once you add the .sof file as page_0, it will automatically enable the page_1 (as application image) for you to add another .sof file.
  5. Click the generate button.
